DUNTON HOTSPRINGS [COLORADO]

Tom Cruise was here and Ralph Lauren dropped by the remote log cabin village of Dunton Hot Springs right in the middle of Colorado, where the West is still at its wildest. It’s around 50 kilometres from the celebrity ski resort of Telluride. In the 1890s Dunton had a population of about 300: miners, cowboys, prostitutes, barkeepers. In 1994 the romantically declining gem in the Rockies was discovered by Christoph Henkel, son of the German industrial dynasty, and a friend.

Over a period of seven years they renovated the town’s huts down to the very last detail, first sharing their paradise with friends and family, and then opening the twelve luxury log cabins for paying guests in 2003. Every now and then a bear passes by and grabs a fresh fish from the creek flowing in front of the cabins.
